5 Years From Now: Gilbert Steier

"I, for one, accept our new Google overlords" said a computer
science teacher at my old high school.

Last year in my old high school, my teacher brought up this
conspiracy that Google is taking over the world. It was obvious that
he was joking, but there were some truth to this theory. Google is
gathering plenty of data about individuals as we speak. They have
access to what we search, which in turn lets Google understand our
preferences, problems, and intelligence. Furthermore, they released
Google Chrome and Google+ in the past decade. With it, they have
access to who we know, how we define the level of friendship we have
with them, the sites we commonly visit, and more! I'm currently
waiting for the new Google laptop to come out. There was no mention
of it being developed, but I have a hunch that it will be made soon.

As for where I think I'll be in 5 years, it better have the
words "working" and "Google" in the same sentence. I will try very
hard in the next 5 years to impress the Google employers so that I
can be a part of this overlord status. Will it be enjoyable? Yes. Will
it be awesome? Most definitely. What will I do with this power?
Absolutely nothing different from what I'm doing right now, which is
programming, eating, and sleeping. Oh, have I mentioned what Google's
office buildings are like?

They're playgrounds. If you don't believe me, do a web image
search for it (preferably not using Google search). The front page
results include slides and hammocks. Is there work to be done? Yes.
Conquering the world requires a ton of work, and there will be times
when I won't be napping on those hammocks in order to write the
software Google finds necessary for world domination.
