STEM fields are the fields that will fuel the future. For those who don’t know what STEM is it’s an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. The medical corridor is a new and exciting place to learn and discover new things about cutting edge medicines and procedures. Technology and Engineering and Math are all fields that are ever evolving and will always be around for there are new things we are learning about each field every day.

In high school I took several STEM classes including AP Calc, Chemistry, Biology, and Algebra 2 and Trig; in high school I was very fortunate to have phenomenal teachers to teach such difficult subject material, but I know how frustrating it can be to study these subjects.

To students taking STEM classes I would suggest to study a little each day. By studying a little each day it alleviates the problem of cramming for a test. Also if you ever don’t understand something, just ask: odds are someone else probably has the same questions as you—there is no such thing as a stupid question.

My view of the STEM fields has always been one that appreciates the services provided by the STEM fields. I also appreciate the prestige that comes with STEM fields as indicator of success.

When I was in high school, I took many STEM courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Algebra, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, Environmental Science and many more. I always had fun in my STEM courses because I was always able to learn something new and it made me appreciate the value of education.

The best advice that I can give is to never be scared of asking questions or asking for help after class because once you get behind, you miss a piece of the puzzle and it can get hard to keep up. Also, most STEM classes require a lot of note taking so make sure to take time efficient and detailed notes.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, huh? In high school, these classes always seemed to be the most difficult, but they were also the coolest! Unlike many other classes, STEM classes may require lots of time, effort, and practice. For the most part, I enjoyed these classes in high school and now I find myself taking them again, but in more depth, in college.

If you happen to be struggling with any of these classes, seek help! For one, make sure you are paying attention in class and asking questions. Tutoring is also available for you and you may even be able to see your teachers after class hours for extra help. Make sure you are doing homework, and if necessary do extra work. Take advantage of your resources and remember that practice makes perfect.

In high school, I did enjoy taking STEM courses. I always loved science and math until I got to college lol. Although I am focusing more on the social sciences aspect of the sciences, I feel as though taking the STEM courses was beneficial. I am well-rounded and prepared for any courses STEM-related courses I may take in college.

While taking STEM courses—or any course for that matter, I advise that students stay focused and do more than just the homework assignments and tests. Do realize that the courses will help you in college and in your career! Make sure that you utilize any resources that are available to you. But, my main point of advice would be to ask for help whenever you need it.

STEM classes were always interesting in High school, although they were a bit challenging at times.

I enjoyed my science courses because they were the only courses where we had the chance to experiment and learn outside of the classroom. We conducted experiments in labs with interesting tools and we also went on trips as homework assignments in order to test out rocks and minerals, etc. Overall, my science courses required a lot of work and attention but it is no doubt that there is a lot to learn from them. My advice to students taking STEM classes is to study when needed and always take advantage of the help offered because although it can be fun, it can always get challenging as well.

My views of the STEM fields have gone through a process of metamorphosis while in high school. Freshman year I loved my living environment and algebra class. Also in my sophomore year I enjoyed having chemistry and Algebra 2 and Trigonometry. Junior year I had physics and geometry and I honestly hated it. The topics intensified throughout the year and required more studying.

As a freshman in college I would advise that for your STEM field based classes you need to assign one hour of reviewing for each class. This helps you reiterate what has been taught recently and previously. And when you come across something you don’t understand see your teachers before or after class to explain it. Never let anything confusing pass you because I realized that STEM field based classes continue to build on what you learned before. So if you don’t understand a topic now, your most likely not going to understand the next one because it’s a continuation of what you previously learned.

Hello there!

In high school, my favorite subject was Math! I love memorizing equations and seeing what result you get from applying the equation to a few numbers. But, science and physics were always the interesting classes. The STEM field is very important and if you really give it a try, very interesting as well. Mastering and keeping up with the advances in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics are essential for our future. You, as a high school student, should explore and see if these subjects interest you. They give you a chance to keep incorporate subject work to real life in ways that are important for our future.

I gave it a try in high school and found it to be very interesting. We did things like mix substances in chemistry, dropped eggs from the rooftop with parachutes in physics and in math we learned equations through memory songs. I suggest for you to find an interest in what you don’t know much about, you may be surprised with the end result.

Peace,

Nariele Santana

The high school I attended was Mathematics, Science Research and Technology Magnet High School, so you can imagine the type of classes I took. I liked my science classes; Biology or Living Environment as the regents was called, earth science, a college course from the University at Albany high school program, called Nutrition and some others. However, I extremely dislike Chemistry, even until this very day. In the school I attended, engineering classes weren’t offered, but almost every math class I was in, I did very well in. Technology classes were fun and very interesting as well.

My advice to anyone taking any STEM classes would be to focus because everything in science classes and math classes are related; these subjects build on each other. I would say biology based classes are very interesting but have many components. STEM classes require focus and studying.
