High school is such an important time in a young person’s life. It’s during this stage where you truly start to grow up as you are no longer looked at as a child, but a young adult, taking steps towards a better future. I really enjoyed my time in high school, however, looking back on my high school years, there are a few things I would definitely do differently. First off, I would have joined more clubs and participated in more extracurricular activities. High school is a once in a life time experience, and the four years fly by. It is very important to enjoy this time, and meet new people.
I would have also built stronger relationships with my teachers. As you begin the college application process, you are going to need recommendation letters. By getting to know some of your teachers and building that relationship, there is a better chance of them writing you a stronger recommendation letter, which is extremely important. Getting started early on the college application process and just preparing for your future is also extremely important.
When I was in high school, I remember my mother pushing me to study vocabulary words for the SATs, or to start looking at schools that I was interested in. At the moment, I felt like I had all the time in the world to figure that stuff out. But those four years really pass by quickly and you don’t want to procrastinate and play around when it comes to your future. Also, I would have taken more AP courses to limit the amount of classes and credits that I had to take in college. All in all I feel that it is very important to be aware of all the various resources provided for you in high school and use them to help prepare you for a smoother transition into college.
