The University can improve and strengthen diversity on this campus by holding programs to educate students on the importance of cultural awareness. Programs can range from students expressing their ethnic backgrounds by preparing food.
Everyone loves food and I believe this will be one of the best possible ways to attract students to events. Eating foods from different backgrounds can simply show the similarities and differences between each ethnicity on how they can make a dish.
For example, Jamaicans, Trinidadians, and Guyanese people make a dish called curry chicken. With this dish the similarity is that they all use curry; however there is a different in how it tastes. This is just one example on how the University can strengthen diversity. One program that I believe should be used in order to promote diversity is C.H.A.R.G.E. which is coordinated through the Department of Residential Life. C.H.A.R.G.E. stands for:
C ELEBRATING ETHNICITY
H ONORING OUR HISTORIES OF STRUGGLE
A CTING FOR CHANGE
R ISING TO OUR HIGHER HUMANITY
G AINING EMPOWERMENT
E DUCATING SELF AND OTHERS
With a budget of $4000, students will be able to attend an event through C.H.A.R.G.E where students can make food from their backgrounds to serve others. A DJ should be present in order to play various music where people can sing or dance. Students can show their talents through artwork and poetry on stage to the viewers.

One program that I wanted to do as a Resident Assistant was to have students from all over campus to participate in a multi-cultural magazine. This magazine will show that diversity exists on this campus through writings or art work of each student that participates. These writings can range from students visiting another country, writing in another language other than English, poems, pictures, families immigrating from another country, or even their college experience. This program isn’t as simple as it seems, but it is cost effective and fulfills the goal of strengthening diversity on this campus.
