Thoughts on High School STEM Classes: Chante Mayers-Barbot

When I was in high school, I enjoyed Math. I was like a math-wiz, but once geometry was introduced to me I was so disappointed that math wasn’t my favorite subject anymore. I use to ask myself “why do I need to know why do I have to prove a triangle is a triangle”, but with the help of my teacher I grasp the concept better. I feel like the STEM field is not as popular as the humanities because students think the classes are much harder because of all the things you have to remember rather than having to right a paper based on your thoughts and feeling about something.

For students who continue to follow the STEM path it is great and should purse what they want to do and enjoy doing. Someone that is taking STEM classes is to ask for help when you need it. Many students are scared to ask for help because they don’t want to feel “dumb” but asking a teacher and going to office hours are the best thing someone that don’t understand the material can do because the teachers are there to help and guide someone through something they don’t understand and need clarification on.
