What advice would you give students regarding social media?
My advice for students regarding social media is that social media is NOT the place to be yourself, but the place to portray the person you want to be. Everyone knows that the average teenager completes a laundry list of thing they shouldn’t be doing. Those things should not go up on any social networks. Employers do background checks and things like that can be really damaging to your image, especially if you decided to run for office some day.

Instead, use social media to show off your best assets. Show your graduation pictures, awards ceremonies, relaxing vacations etc. Post things that you know for a fact you won’t regret later on in life.
What are the positives? What are the negatives?
Some positives about social media are that it gives you the opportunity almost everyone you’ve ever encountered in life at your fingertips. You can send out event invitations with wasting money on envelopes, paper and stamps, and you can rekindle relations with old friends.
A negative is that social media has put an emphasis on people’s social lives instead of their professional lives, or even their education.
Does it truly bring people together?
No. It does not bring people together. Social networks are places for you to keep up with how many acquaintances you have. You don’t use social media to contact or stay in touch with your real friends.
