What Is A Role Model: Pertrice Sennon

There are tons of characteristics that great role models should have! Good role models should be organized, respectful, determined, caring, hard working, really understanding, non judgmental and the list can go on and on.

Personally, I don't have a specific role model because the only role model I need is myself. I truly believe that the person I want to be is the only "role model" I need. I am the only person that knows exactly who I want to be in the future, so I have the future me to look up to. Its insane when you first think about it, but that's the only role model anyone really needs. When you're in a tough situation and you need someone to show you the right way, just think "What would the person I want to be do in this situation" and then do that. You will become that person sooner than you anticipate and you will become someone else's role model.

The traditional role model will not always be there to support you or to show you right from wrong or even to do the right things. Its human nature to make mistakes and no one is perfect and that is exactly why I think of my future me as my role model. Since my future me doesn't exist yet, I know she will not disappoint me by making mistakes or making the wrong decisions. Honestly, I don't have a role model right now because I've come to the realization that no one needs one. There are tons of people that you can admire and try to be more like them now and then, but at the end of the day you are your own person so you shouldn't strive to be someone else. Use those people that you admire so much as tour guides to guide you through the twists and turns of your life, but don't ever use them as a blueprint to copy. You are the only person that know exactly what you want out of life. Although you will have a support system that encourages you, but it is ultimately up to you and only you to make it happen. Role models will come and go, but you will always be you and that's why your future you is the only role model you will ever need.
