Today's quote of the day is from George Washington Carver. He was an American scientist, botanist, educator, and inventor. Carver's reputation is based on the research that he did with the rotation of crops with soybeans, peanuts, and sweet potatoes. He wanted poor farmers and families to grow and alternate crops as a source for their own food and to improve their quality of life.

On his grave was written, "He could have added fortune to fame, but caring for neither, he found happiness and honor in being helpful to the world."

  • "Cultivate your garden... Do not depend upon teachers to educate you ... follow your own bent, pursue your curiosity bravely, express yourself, make your own harmony... In the end, education, like happiness, is individual, and must come to us from life and from ourselves. There is no way; each pilgrim must make his own path. ‘Happiness,’ said Chamfort, ‘is not easily won; it is hard to find it in ourselves, and impossible to find it elsewhere."
    ~~ Will Durant
